Laura E. Brown, DDS, assistant professor and interim chair of the Department of Periodontics, has accepted the position of chair of the Department of Periodontics effective Jan. 1, 2020. Brown has been a full-time faculty member of the department since June 1, 2018.
Prior to her full-time position at the School of Dentistry, Brown maintained a private practice limited to periodontics from 1998-2013 in Olathe, Kansas. She also served as a clinical faculty member at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry from 2013-2018.
Brown received her BS in Cellular Biology (1987) from the University of Tulsa: DDS (1991) and MS in Oral Biology/Certificate Periodontics (1998) from UMKC. She served as a dental officer in the United States Navy from 1991-1995. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
She is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, American Board of Periodontology, Midwest Society of Periodontology and Missouri-Kansas Society of Periodontists.
Brown’s past experience in collaborative relationships with general dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics and prosthodontic referrals in addition to participation in treatment planning cases that require interdisciplinary cooperation.
