Gutterman Awarded NIH Grant

Tim GuttermanTimothy C. Guetterman, PhD, associate professor, in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Graduate School, received an NIH K01 Career Development Award in Bioinformatics and Data Science. The NIH just awarded a transfer to Creighton from his former institution for the remaining two years of this three-year $436,000 grant. Through the research project, “Enhancing nonverbal communication through technology,” Guetterman uses mixed methods research to examine how virtual human technology can provide practical training in empathic health communication. The virtual human program addresses how providers talk to patients and other providers and attends to what people say in addition to nonverbal expressions. His mentors include Ravi Nath, PhD, Creighton; Pamela Boyers, PhD, UNMC; and Michael Fetters, MD, University of Michigan.
