Averett’s Article Published

Matthew Averett, Ph.D., assistant professor of art history, had his article “Becoming Giorgio Cornaro: Titian’s Portrait of a Man with a Falcon” published in the Zeitschrift fur Kunstgeschichte 74:4 (2011), 559-568. The article discusses the Joslyn Art Museum’s well-known painting and puts forth the case for identifying the sitter as Giorgio Cornaro the Younger, while also discussing falcons and falconry as metaphors for social aspirations in early-modern Italy.
