Bartz Research to be Highlighted in Journal

An article by Jason Bartz, Ph.D., on “In Vitro Generation of High Titer Prions” has been selected by editors to appear in the December issue of Journal of Virology’s “Spotlight,” a feature section highlighting five research articles of “significant interest” in that issue. His research gives credence to the view that protein is an agent of prion disease, which has been a subject of debate.

Bartz, an associate professor of medical microbiology and immunology, is the corresponding author; Creighton research fellow Ronald Shikiya, Ph.D., is co-author. In July, Bartz was awarded a $1.6 million five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to continue his research on mechanisms of prion strain selection.
