Palestine Amid the Arab Uprisings by Ziad Abbas

“Palestine Amid the Arab Uprisings” will be presented Friday, Oct. 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Skutt Student Center, Mutual of Omaha Ballroom. Ziad Abbas will discuss his experiences growing up in a Palestinian refugee camp and his role with the Middle East Children’s Alliance’s MAIA Project, which provides clean, safe drinking water for children in Palestine. In addition, he will examine the impact of the popular uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and Libya on the Palestinian people.

Abbas is a Palestinian journalist from Dheisheh Refugee camp in the West Bank. He is the co-founder of the Ibdaa Cultural Center in Dheisheh where he served as co-director from 1994 to 2008. He has worked with Palestinian and international media and has participated in the production of several documentary films, including the award-winning film “Promises.”
