Mullins Wins Silver Pen Award

David Mullins, assistant professor of English, won the Silver Pen Award recently, recognizing his writing career in and about Nevada. The award was established in 1996 by Friends of the University of Nevada, Reno, Library, as part of the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame’s effort to recognize writers who are either emerging and in mid-career and have shown substantial achievement. One or two writers win the award annually. Nominees must have a strong Nevada connection and have received critical recognition from colleagues and other writers. The organizers hope that the recipients will eventually be inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame. Mullins will be formally recognized at an awards ceremony in November, where he will read an excerpt from Greetings from Below, his collection of short stories.

Last semester, Mullins participated in the Department of English’s 2010-2011 Creighton Reading Series. His reading can be seen on the College’s Youtube Channel.
