The University is studying the feasibility of repurposing several campus buildings to advance Creighton’s academic mission in a fiscally responsible manner.
For the past several years, the College of Business has been exploring building a new facility to support the growth in business programs and student enrollment. Creighton President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., initiated a study to determine if it would be possible to locate the college within the Harper Center at a cost much less than new construction and avoiding ongoing expenses associated with a new building.
A working group that included Harper Center designers and leadership of the University, College of Business and College of Arts and Sciences presented its study to the Board of Directors on Oct. 3 and the Board authorized development of further plans.
Under the preliminary plans, the College of Arts and Sciences will benefit from renovations to the Eppley Building space, providing access to classrooms, enabling department relocations to alleviate overcrowding, and co-locating programs to achieve interdisciplinary synergies. The Brandeis Hall building would be renovated to locate a portion of the Student Life and academic support functions.
Moving the College of Business into the Harper Center will bring more students, faculty and community business leaders into the building. Preliminary plans indicate that many of the existing offices and programs on Harper’s first and second floors will remain.
Further discussions will take place before plans are finalized and moves confirmed. Father Lannon assured the campus that leadership will provide information on this project as planning continues.
