Spotlight on Islam and Muslims

The Creighton Muslim Student Association (MSA) presents “Spotlight on Islam & Muslims” Oct. 3-7. This week of activities will provide educational opportunities to learn about different aspects of Islam the religion and Muslims. Events are:

Monday, Oct. 3

  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. — Ethnic Food Sale: Middle Eastern. $5/plate, $1 for dessert. Bring cash please! Creighton University Mall (Rain Location: Hixson-Lied Science Building, Mutual of Omaha Student Lounge, 1st Floor)
  • Noon-1 p.m. — “Getting to Know American Muslims and Their Faith.” Presented by Maisha Liwaru, Skutt Student Center Ballroom
  • 6:30-8:45 p.m. — Showing of the movie “Moozlum,” Skutt Student Center Ballroom

Tuesday, Oct. 4

  • 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — “Getting to Know Muslim Americans,” UNO Omaha Room, Milo Bail Student Center
  • 6:30-8:45 p.m. — Showing of Movie “Out of Cordoba” followed by question and answer session with director, Jacob Bender, Harper Center Ballroom

Wednesday, Oct. 5

  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. – “Sharia Law: Facts vs. Myths,” presented by Nimat Barazangi and Naser Alsharif, Harper Center Auditorium.
  • 6:30-8 p.m. — “Why Muslim women are re-interpreting the Qur’an and Hadith,” presented by Nimat Barazangi, UNO Centennial Room, Thompson Center

Thursday, Oct. 6

  • Noon-1 p.m. – “Roots of Islam in America!” presented by Sharif Liwaru, Harper Center Auditorium.
  • 6:30-8 p.m. – “I Speak for Myself,” presented by Mariam Sobh and Zahra Suratwala, UNO Bootsrapper Room, Thompson Center

Friday, Oct. 7

  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. — Panel discussion on “What is common among us?” featuring representatives from the Trifaith initiative of Omaha, Skutt Center Ballroom
