Fr. Doll Receives Honor

Don Doll, S.J., a professor in the Department of Journalism, Media & Computing, had a photograph selected as 1001 Stories of Common Ground’s Best Photo and Best Overall Entry in their Positive Change in Action competition. The photo was submitted by Zerene Haddad of Jesuit Refugee Services Middle East (JRS MER).

The photo, titled “Veiled Differences, Unveiled Similarities,” features an Iraqi refugee woman and her daughter being welcomed by St. Hala, a Syrian nun, to a Mother’s Day celebration at the Jesuit Refugee Service Deir Vartan Centre in Aleppo, Syria.

The Positive Change in Action contest asked journalists, writers, bloggers, photographers and video makers in the Middle East and North Africa to submit entries of original works that show positive social change in the region. Finalists in the categories of best photo, best written piece and best video had their works featured on the Common Ground News Service. Selected as Best Photo, JRS MER was awarded a $500 grant and an additional $250 for Best Overall Entry.
