CWS and Creighton

Baseball fans, alumni and visitors took the opportunity to walk the campus and talk with Creighton staff and students, take tours and take advantage of parking during the 2011 Men’s College World Series. And several tournament teams used the University’s practice field.

According to Public Safety Director, Rick McAuliffe, the parking business was good. “Fans were great and parking lots were a convenient 10-minute walk to and from the stadium and readily accessible. We are already taking lessons learned from the first year to help with plans for 2012,” he added.

Creighton Athletics Department staff did their part by helping with athletic training, sports information, suite hosting, serving as ambassadors and much more.

A highlight of the tournament was on June 23 when the 1991 Creighton Bluejay baseball team was recognized. Former Creighton coach Jim Hendry, now the general manager of the Chicago Cubs, was on hand along with former assistants Jack Dahm and Todd Wenberg as well as team members including current Virginia baseball coach Brian O’Connor.
