Guatemala Volcano Eruption Emergency Response – Here’s How You Can Help!

Guatemala experienced a devastating volcanic eruption on Sunday, June 3rd. As a Catholic Relief Services, Global Campus, we want to share with you how CRS is working with Church and government partners to assess and respond to the needs of those affected.

*EMERGENCY UPDATE: Guatemala experienced an eruption of Volcan de Fuego on Sunday, June 3. The eruption has impacted several communities in Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez, damaging infrastructure and affecting more than 1.7 million people. Currently more than 3,000 people have been evacuated with nearly 1,700 people needing shelter. You can read more about the story of Julia Gonzales and her family here.

*CRS RESPONSE: CRS is working with Caritas Escuintla to assess immediate needs across the affected communities. Caritas has opened a collection center for water, food and medicine, and the Catholic Church has opened three shelters in the area. CRS staff are on the ground working to determine what additional resources are needed.

Thank you for all the ways you lift up the work of CRS on your campus all year. If you would like to find a way to help those affected today, please remember them in your prayers, and consider supporting the work of CRS on the ground in Guatemala.
