Mission Knowledge and Commitment Survey

This fall, as part of the process to seek reaffirmation of our Catholic and Jesuit Identity by Superior General Sosa of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), Creighton faculty and staff are asked to participate in a short, electronic survey describing knowledge of, and commitment to, the Catholic Jesuit character of our mission of higher education. Sponsored by Xavier University, the survey will provide data about the various levels of knowledge and commitment of Creighton employees, and will show that data in parallel with matching data from at least 12 other Jesuit universities in the United States.

Creighton participated in this collaborative effort three years ago, so this year’s survey will provide important baseline comparative data on the same questions and concerns and deliver valuable quantitative data for our University-wide reaffirmation report, being prepared by the committee appointed by the President this past summer.

As Father Hendrickson announced in July, the process of reaffirmation is really a way that the Jesuit Order invites key constituencies of Creighton to respond positively to the questions: “Do we want to be recognized as a Jesuit University?” and “How committed are we to deepening our knowledge, understanding and commitment to this institutional mission?” The faculty and staff make up the most enduring, long term core of our community, so providing evidence of the commitment of the employees to the mission both broadly, across the university, and deeply, within every school and division, is essential for securing the reaffirmation from Father General and the Vatican.

Data on the level of knowledge and commitment of the Board of Trustees, students, parents and alumna will be drawn from other sources, as the process goes forward, according to Eileen Burke-Sullivan, STD, Vice Provost for Mission and Ministry and chair of the President’s Committee on Reaffirmation of the Mission.

All employees are asked to participate and to urge their friends and colleagues at Creighton to participate by responding to the short, online survey which will be distributed through an email letter from Fr. Hendrickson on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Faculty and staff will have until Sept. 27  to complete the questionnaire. Data collected from Creighton will be reported back to faculty and staff during the spring semester of 2018.
