Jay Carney, PhD, professor in the Department of Theology, recently edited a special issue of the Australia-based Journal of Religious History on the theme of “Christianity and Politics in 20th-Century Africa.” Released to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the “year of independence” in Africa, the issue offers a particular focus on Roman Catholic engagement with late colonial and post-colonial African politics. Carney also contributed an article to the issue entitled “Benedicto Kiwanuka and Catholic Democracy in Uganda” that draws on research for two forthcoming books.
