Myers Gives Artist’s Talk in Cambridge

alex myersAlex Myers, MFA, (Department of Journalism, Media, & Computing) was recently invited to give an artist’s talk about his work at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, U.K. Alex talked about the ways his work often interrogates issues of immersion, affect, violence, and interactivity. As a visual artist, he explores the use of video game technologies in media art. In his talk, Alex offered an overview of his work and discussed the critical roles which technologies familiar from mainstream media contexts can play in experimental art practices.

During the same trip Alex also delivered a talk at the Blender Conference in Amsterdam, North Holland, The Netherlands. Blender is an open source, cross-platform, 3D modeling application used widely in industry and academe. There Alex discussed the emerging trend and benefits of teaching 3D modeling at a foundations level in graphic design curriculum and also about the realities of balancing free, open source software and paid-commercial software in design curricula.
