Creighton University’s 2021 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

Creighton University’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR) is published by Oct. 1 each year in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and the Violence Against Women Act. These federal laws seek to make college campuses safer through the disclosure of crime statistics and efforts taken to improve campus safety.

This report includes statistics of reported crimes from the previous three years, as well as institutional policy statements regarding crime reporting and prevention, campus facility security and access, law enforcement authority, incidence of alcohol and drug use, the prevention of and response to sexual assault, domestic or dating violence, and stalking and internal and external referral resources.

The Clery Act promotes transparency and ongoing communication about campus crimes and other threats to the health and safety Creighton’s community members and empowers them to take an active role in their own safety and security.

Correction to the 2020 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR)

If an institution needs to correct its crime statistics from a previous year, the Clery Act requires that the institution must correct the statistics in all previous annual security reports that included the statistics. Once the correction has been made, the institution is required to redistribute the ASR to students and employees.

For its 2020 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, Creighton University needed to make one such correction. An internal audit in 2021 discovered one robbery had occurred on campus in 2019 that was reported to the Omaha Police Department, but not to Public Safety. As a result, this robbery was omitted from the 2019 on-campus crime statistics. This omission has been corrected, and a corrected copy of Creighton’s 2020 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is now available.
