So, you missed the BlueLine boot camp. Your friends all came back wearing some cool new dog tags and a few lucky folks are wearing canvas shirts or sporting new tattoos. You’re thinking that you totally missed out on the hippest event at Creighton since the days of Bob Gibson roaming the halls of the admin building. Well guess what? We’re doing it again (maybe even a couple of times this summer). The next boot camp training session will be on Thursday, May 31. The sessions are the same, the prizes are the same and the trainers are the same. Even the snacks may be the same (but newer). For more information and links to a sign up page visit the BlueLine blog site at http://blogs.creighton.edu/blueline.

Don’t miss out on your chance to nominate your Staff Advisory Council (SAC) Representative. The new fiscal year is upon us, and some of your SAC representatives’ terms are over. We will need to replace six representatives for next year:

Two from Administrative and Finance

One from Information Technologies

One from Student Services

Two from Health Sciences (School of Medicine, Missouri Valley Consortium, Cardiac Center, Clinics)

Please consider nominating a staff member from the areas above as a candidate for the Staff Advisory Council. The employee can be exempt or non-exempt, and must be Level E through M. This employee must have given you a verbal approval to nominate him/her. This representative will serve a three-year term. Please know that you may nominate yourself as well.

SAC serves as a liaison between staff and the President’s Office. It is a vital part of the University organization, so please consider nominating yourself or someone else. To access the nominating form click here. Please contact Sue Chamberlin, schamber@creighton.edu or 402.280.5135, with any questions. Nominations must be submitted by Thursday, May 31.

Been considering quitting smoking soon or in the near future? Make this summer your time to COMMIT TO QUIT tobacco for good. Two COMMIT TO QUIT smoking cessation classes will be starting on June 4. These eight-session, one-hour group classes are free to benefits-eligible Creighton University employees and their spouses. For more detailed class information, visit the Tobacco Free You announcements page.

NEW THIS YEAR: If you are unable to attend or uninterested in group COMMIT TO QUIT classes, but still want to quit, you can sign up for four one-on-one sessions with the Cardiac Center’s tobacco cessation coordinator instead.

Whether you choose group classes or one-on-one sessions, medication assistance is provided in order to help make your transition to a nicotine-free lifestyle a little easier. For additional details on the other benefits available to tobacco users trying to quit click here to view a short video presentation or download the incentives overview document. Ready to sign up? Have questions? Call Shavonne at 280.5287 or e-mail Tobacco@creighton.edu for assistance.

Session 1: Tuesday, May 15, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (for all employees)
Session 2: Tuesday, May 22 (for employees in health care)
Our work, home and social situations are filled to overflowing with commitments and expectations, which can inhibit us from leading a lean and healthy life. This presentation will help you clean up your busy life landscape just as a gardener does with early signs of spring. You will: clean up your mental landscape by cleaning up the old and preparing for the new; clean up your physical environment by looking through your cabinets, pantry, fridge and freezer at home and your work storage as well; and clean up your scheduled priorities. Join us if you’re ready to tackle this clean up for improving health. Presented by Dawn Obermiller and Amber Benda.
