    • Sayyid Qutb and the Origins of Radical Islamism, (Columbia/Hurst), by John Calvert, Ph.D., the Henry W. Casper Professor of History, is now available in the United States. According to a review in The Economist, “This rich and carefully researched biography sets Qutb for the first time in his Egyptian context, rescuing him from caricature without whitewashing his radicalism. It is no small achievement.”

Jeffrey Maciejewski, Ph.D., Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Advertising Federation-Omaha where he will chair the public service committee.

The novel The Cailiffs of Baghdad, Georgia (W.W. Norton & Company), by creative writing professor Mary Helen Stefaniak, will be available in bookstores on Sept. 6. For more information about the novel, visit www.maryhelenstefaniak.com. • New Service Desk for Creighton

    • An initiative is under way to combine the separate Creighton IT service desks into a single IT service contact center for campus, unifying multiple call centers into one. When operational, all IT service request calls for all of Creighton University will be answered within the same contact center, using the existing internal extension of x1111 or (402.280.1111) and the existing toll free phone numbers for off campus clients. Service calls to x1111 will be answered by an external local service desk provider and promptly routed to the correct Creighton resource for timely support. The new service desk model is an important initial step toward maximizing the quality of IT service provided to the Creighton community by providing streamlined support and services. The service desk will have extended hours of operation and an enhanced self-service portal for reporting failures and opening service requests. The portal is located at www.creighton.edu/servicedesk. The project has been in progress since June and will continue through October, with most of the consolidation within the first two to three weeks of the fall semester. The Department of Cardiology is now using the new service. DoIT, CMA and the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions will complete transitioning to the new service in early October. Additional campus wide updates will be sent to keep you informed about the progress status. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact the project manager, Bob Duros at bobduros@creighton.edu.
