• Cardoner Call To Service Lunch Discussion
  

  • The Cardoner “Call To Service Lunch Discussion” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Skutt Student Center, room 105. A soup lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with discussion from noon to 1 p.m. Brian Kokensparger and Tom Castellano will describe how they use technology to answer their call to serve youth. Kokensparger is an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences and develops community-based service-learning courses. Castellano is a Creighton adjunct professor researching the possibilities of virtual world application in education, v-learning and non-profit organizations. • New Monday Allergy Walk-in Clinic
  

  • Starting Monday, Oct. 4, the Division of Allergy and Immunology will be offering a Walk-in Clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday at the 601 N. 30th St., suite 3M-100 location. No appointment is necessary for new or established patients. Immunotherapy (allergy shots) also will be available on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., including the lunch hour. This clinic is under the direction of James Tracy, D.O., assistant professor of medicine. Call 402.280.4403 for more information.

• Sampling Considerations Workshop - 09/22/10
  

  • Registrations are being accepted for the following workshop, which is part of the Research Methodology/Research Case Presentation Series offered by the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Office of Research. “Sampling Considerations in Research Workshop” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Harper Center, room 3027. Xiang Fang, Ph.D., will present the workshop from noon to 2 p.m. From 2 to 4 p.m., Fang and Kimberly Galt, Pharm.D., Ph.D., will provide individual consultations and feedback during 20 minute, appointment only sessions. This workshop will cover: common sampling methods used in research, such as random sampling, cluster sampling, stratified sampling and systematic sampling; choosing the appropriate sampling method for the research; and how to determine and calculate the sample size. This workshop is open to all Creighton University faculty and staff. Please bring a brown bag lunch, drinks will be provided. • CGCA Root Beer Float Sale
  

  • The Creighton Graduate Clinical Anatomists will have a root beer float sale, featuring root beer from Upstream Brewing Co. and ice cream from Ted & Wally’s, on Thursday, Sept. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Hixson-Lied Science Building, Mutual of Omaha Lounge. Cost is $2. Proceeds will benefit local kidney patient Jon Traver.

• Lakota Immersion-Mentorship Program
  

  • The Lakota Immersion-Mentorship Program for Creighton University administration, faculty and staff includes working with Lakota high school students who are preparing for college, visiting historical and cultural sites on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations, and a dialogue with Lakota students currently enrolled at Creighton as well as with other Lakota living on the reservations. Participants in the program will work with students at Red Cloud High School, a Jesuit school on Pine Ridge. Events are designed to allow each mentor to get to know her/his protégés and to begin the very complicated and lengthy process of completing the Gates Millennium Scholarship application. • The Catholic Church and Peace Building in the Congo
  

  • The Kripke Center for the Study of Religion and Society together with the Center for Catholic Thought invites you to a lecture by Bishop Nicolas Djoma, “The Catholic Church and Peace Building in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” on Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the Harper Center, room 3023, at 7 p.m. Bishop Djoma will address the problem of religion and violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. • Free Dental Cleaning
  

  • Creighton University School of Dentistry is seeking volunteers to help complete a clinical research study. Volunteers are needed if they have sensitive teeth. This study involves placing a prophy paste for the reduction of tooth hypersensitivity after cleaning. Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age to participate and have not had a dental cleaning within 30 days prior to being in the study. You may wait until after 30 days. • Skutt Student Center Advisory Board - Faculty Representative Needed
  

  • The Skutt Student Center Advisory Board is currently accepting nominations for a faculty voting non-student representative. Any current Creighton faculty member may be nominated. Please send nominations to Ryan Lahne (ryanlahne@creighton.edu) by Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. General Board Information: The director of the Skutt Student Center is advised on matters of policy and operation by a single Advisory Board composed of students, faculty, alumni and staff. This Advisory Board shall assume the role of advocate for the various users of the Skutt Student Center. The Skutt Student Center Advisory Board shall make recommendations on all policies and procedures and have advisory capacity over any and all areas of operation and activities in the Center. The decisions and actions of the Advisory Board shall be subject to review and control by the vice president for Student Services.

  • The 10th Annual Stephen Chartrand Memorial Grand Rounds is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10, at 8 a.m. in the Children’s Hospital Glow Education Center. • Do You Like Grapefruit Juice?
  

  • The Cardiac Center is looking for healthy volunteers ages 19-40 to participate in a four-week study on the effects of grapefruit juice on an anti-platelet medication. If you do not take any prescription or over-the-counter medications on a regular basis, you may qualify. Compensation will be given to participants. • Asthma Research Study - Investigational Medication
  

  • Research participants with asthma are needed for a research study. Do you have asthma? Have you used prednisone pills in the last 12 months? Are you between the ages of 19 and 65? The Creighton University Allergy Division is currently seeking non-smoking asthmatics for a 12-month study of an investigational asthma medication. • A Reading by Writer Dinty Moore
  

  • The Creative Writing Program of the English Department will present a reading by writer Dinty Moore, author of Toothpick Men, The Accidental Buddhist, Between Panic and Desire and Crafting the Personal Essay. He will read from his work on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Skutt Student Center, room 105. Admission is free.

• Asthma Research Study
  

  • Do you have asthma? Creighton University Medical Center Allergy & Immunology Division is looking for qualified participants for an asthma trial. If you are at least 19 years of age, have a diagnosis of asthma, are a non-smoker and use an inhaler as needed, you may qualify for this research study. Qualified participants will have 10 scheduled visits over approximately a 20-week time period. You will be compensated for time and travel. For more information please call Jean at 280.5965.

• Pediatric Asthma Study
  

  • Does your child have asthma? Are they between the ages of 6 and 12 and on an inhaled steroid? If so, they may qualify to participate in an investigational asthma medication research trial that lasts approximately 10 weeks. • Spiritual Direction and Ignatian Retreats
  

  • Cardoner will fund a four to eight day spiritual retreat or spiritual direction through May 15, 2011. Your retreat application must be made by Oct. 9, 2010, to finalize financial commitments to this program. Your retreat will include a spiritual director (find sites here). E-mail Janine ter Kuile for more information on how to be reimbursed. Only one retreat reimbursed by Cardoner is considered within a five-year period.

    Ignatian spirituality, the vision of the relationship between God and the human person grounded in the mystical experiences of St. Ignatius, has its primary expression in his book of The Spiritual Exercises. More than 20 retreat houses and spirituality centers in the United States provide a variety of services based on The Spiritual Exercises for clergy, men and women religious and lay people.
